Documentary...
For the spring 2022 semester, I am enrolled in a Documentary Workshop course with Professor James Rada. In this course, students get to focus on a topic of their choice and follow the story throughout the whole semester, and create a documentary, capturing the most important moments and intimate details along the journey.
For this semester, I am working with Jordan Broking on a documentary focusing on the housing crisis in Ithaca, New York. Many in the Ithaca area are affected by the high cost of living in the city and surrounding area, but what Jordan and I wanted to focus on was a P.O.C perspective, and to find out if their experiences were different as opposed to the Caucasian demographic.
Ithaca is known to be a liberal city, but despite its reputation, housing is at an all time high. With interviews with local politicians, tenants, and landlords, hopefully this project can provide more information for why Ithaca is expensive to live in, and to hopefully raise awareness and change the current patterns of housing.
Follow along!
As the semester goes on, and Jordan and I interview sources, I will be posting updates on this page and on my social media, which you can find here!
While the final product is important, I think showing the process of producing the documentary is equally as important. Clips from interviews and pictures will be shared to give a behind the scenes look, and it will be rewarding to see all of these pieces come together.
Eviction Protest
Every Thursday morning, members of the Ithaca Tenants Union (ITU) and other housing advocates gather in front of the Ithaca City Court to protest eviction cases that are being heard in the courtroom.
The demonstrators continue to fight and raise awareness of why evictions are bad for people's livelihood. The TikTok and photo were taken at the demonstration which took place on Feb. 24.
Jordan and I will revisit the demonstration site to gather more visuals and information.

Protestors display signs advocating for more tenant friendly legislation like the Right to Renew bill, and for tenant organizations, like the ITU.
On Feb. 24, I covered an eviction protest at the Ithaca City Court. Take a look!
